Governor Acharya Devvrat extols virtues of gobar and gaumutra to Gujarat High Court judges

Gobar (cow dung) and gaumutra (cow urine) of Desi cows are a blessing for Indian farmers as 1 gram of the former contains 300 crore bacteria and the latter is a treasure trove of minerals, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat told judges of the Gujarat High Court on Tuesday. .While addressing High Court and district court judges across the State virtually, the Governor said that God has purposely made a "factory" of bacteria in the intestines of Indian cows. "I collected the dung of various animals such as a donkey, monkey, Indian Desi Cow, etc. Then the same was sent for a research and you will be surprised that only one gram of gobar of Desi cows contained 300 crore bacteria, which is useful for farming. There are so many animals on this planet yet the God has sent the Desi cows with a factory of bacteria built in its intestines, which is a blessing for farmers," he told the judges. He went on to state,"Gaumutra is a treasure of minerals and the cow-dung has efficient bacteria in it. You will be surprised, but yes, the cows that many of us have abandoned and left on the streets, I caught one of them and tested her gobar too. Those cows, which do not give milk are having 500 crore bacteria in one gram of their dung. So just think, the cows that we abandoned are helpful for the farmers.".The Governor was addressing the State judiciary on the topic 'Facets of Natural Farming'.While criticising prevalent farming practices where insecticides, pesticides, and urea is used, the Governor advocated for natural farming, which used a unique jeevamrut formula, which he claimed to have initiated. "A cow produces at least 8kg to 10kg of dung daily and same amount (in litres) of urine. Collect the cow-dung and gaumutra of one full day and put it in a drum which already has 180 litres of water. Then add some jaggery to this mixture and also the flour of any lentils. Lastly, add a handful of soil from beneath a huge tree. Then mix it properly and preserve it for at least five days. On the sixth day, your fertilizer is ready, which can easily be used for one acres land," he explained. As per Governor Devvrat, if this formula is followed, in a month, a cow can be used to produce fertilizer for over 30 acres of farm land..This fertilizer, the Governor said, would help in enhancing overall production of farms."I myself practice this natural farming technique on my acres of land in Gurukul. And I can say the production is at the par with that of chemical farming, which is usually practiced. People from foreign countries visit my farms. In fact, Ministers of Indian government too have come and seen my farms. My sugarcane height is more than 18 feet, which is much better than the produce of chemical farming," he claimed. .Due to chemical farming, he said, the overall fertility of lands has decreased, and farms have become barren. This, he said is because chemicals have killed the farmer's best friends - earthworms. But his unique fertiliser would help bring back the earthworm, which is deep inside the earth, he said. The Governor also said that people should stop the "sin" of burning farm stubble. "Burning your farm land is like burning your own body. This is a paap (sin) and we should avoid all this. Instead, after harvesting is done, cover your farm land with mulching. This will help retain the carbon within the land and it would only enhance the fertility," he suggested. Finally, he said that if natural farming techniques are used, cows won't have to wander on the streets, and people won't fall prey to deadly diseases like cancer. Further, the government would not have to spend crores to import urea and other fertilizers for farming.
