Senior counsel Atamaram Nadkarni, Goa’s Advocate General since 2012, has been appointed Additional Solicitor General in the Supreme Court of India as per this report by PTI..In an earlier interview with Bar & Bench, Nadkarni had said as Advocate General, he had not faced any pressure from the State government. He also said that his role as AG was to inform the state government when it was “crossing the line”..After the NDA government came to power at the Centre in 2014, Nadkarni has regularly been seen at the Supreme Court..Completing his masters in law from Bombay, Nadkarni started off working in the chambers of a retired High Court judge, before moving back to Goa in 1996..It is not clear as to who will replace Nadkarni as Goa’s Advocate General.
