Advocate Gaurav Bhatia has resigned from the post of Additional Advocate. General (AAG) of Uttar Pradesh. Bhatia was appointed as AAG in 2012 by the Uttar Pradesh government to represent the State in the Supreme Court..He is currently the Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA)..Speaking to Bar & Bench, Bhatia had this to say:.“I had served the State for 4 years and had expressed my desire to be relieved of government duty to focus on my private practice. The request was made a month back and the Chief Minister acceded to the same. ”.Bhatia was at the helm of many important cases involving the Uttar Pradesh government in Supreme Court before he was elected as Secretary of the SCBA in December last year. Bhatia also said that his role as SCBA Secretary did not in any manner affect his decision to quit as government lawyer.
