The firm, christened TechLegis Advocates & Solicitors, will have a specialist focus on technology and IP..Also part of the firm will be former Fox Mandal lawyers Hamdullah Sayeed and Nitin Kumar, along with two of Waris’ law school friends from Aligarh Muslim University, Abhilash Solanki and Kunwar Mohammed..The firm is currently ten lawyers strong, having also roped in ex-Fox Mandal lawyer and Patent Attorney Lalit Ambastha..Waris started his career at Suri & Co after graduating from Aligarh Muslim University in 2003. He then went on to obtain an LLM from University of Essex, UK and specialize in Comparative Media Law from the University of Oxford, after which he worked as head of TMT practice at Fox Mandal for more than 6 years..He joined SDA as a partner in 2013, and headed the TMT practice until last year..In a press release, he commented,.“After SDA I wanted to set up a firm but the challenge was in providing full service one stop shop to clients – especially international clients. Since I had a strong international client base it was also important for us to have people who are experts in each practice area. Hence it has taken some time to put together a team of people most of whom I have known personally for some time now or have closely worked with in different law firms”.
