Former Kerala High Court judge Justice Ullal Lakshminarayana Bhat passed away on Thursday. He was 91..Justice Bhat studied law at Madras Law College, graduated in 1954, and started his law practice before the Madras High Court in 1955. He was appointed as District and Sessions Judge in 1970 and served till 1980. He was appointed judge of the Kerala High Court in 1980 and thereafter served as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court in 1991.Justice Bhat subsequently went on to serve as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court and the Madhya Pradesh High Court before retiring in October 1995. After retiring, Justice Bhat was was appointed the President of the Customs Excise and Gold Control Appellate Tribunal (CEGAT) in New Delhi, where he served for three years.
