Former Chief Justice of India UU Lalit has been appointed as a member of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) panel of arbitrators.
Justice Lalit was the 49th Chief Justice of India and was the second direct appointee from the Bar to have served at the helm of the Supreme Court of India.
He was enrolled with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa as an advocate in June 1983. In 1992, Justice Lalit qualified and was registered as an Advocate-on-Record at the Supreme Court. In 2004, he was designated as a Senior Advocate of the apex court.
SIAC is a global arbitral institution which also provides case management services to parties from all over the world. Its arbitration awards have been enforced in many jurisdictions including Australia, China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Thailand, UK, USA and Vietnam, amongst other New York Convention signatories.
SIAC’s Board of Directors and its Court of Arbitration consists of lawyers and professionals from all over the world.
The Board is responsible for overseeing the SIAC’s operations, business strategy and development, as well as corporate governance matters.
The main functions of the Court of Arbitration includes the appointment of arbitrators, as well as overall supervision of case administration at SIAC.
Recently, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas Managing Partner Cyril Shroff was appointed as a Director to SIAC’s Board.
Head of the Dispute Resolution practice and Senior Partner at AZB & Partners Vijayendra Pratap Singh was appointed as a member of SIAC Court of Arbitration.
The other members who were re-appointed include Senior Advocates Harish Salve and Darius Khambata and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas Disputes Head and Partner Tejas Karia.
