As reported earlier, Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Mahua Moitra has approached the Delhi High Court to stop BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai and a host of media organisations from publishing or circulating defamatory material against her..Dubey and Dehadrai had alleged that Moitra accepted bribes to ask questions in parliament.The BJP MP had written to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla on Sunday alleging that Moitra agreed to field questions in parliament on behalf of business tycoon Darshan Hiranandani, in exchange for cash and gifts.Dubey's complaint stemmed from a letter he received from Dehadrai, who had filed a complaint with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) claiming to have "irrefutable evidence that Moitra took bribes from Hiranandani."Moitra has termed all these allegations baseless and defamatory, and apart from an injunction, also sought damages. After failing to garner support from credible journalists who would have verified or fact-checked the allegations, Dehadrai approached Dubey; Dubey and Moitra clashed on several occasions, so the allegations are a convergence of personal enmity and political vendetta; Dubey did not conduct any due diligence to establish the veracity of the allegations and wrote the letter to the Speaker of Lok Sabha to obtain political mileage. Dubey exaggeratedly regurgitated the allegations; Dehadrai morphed her private photographs edited himself out of the pictures before leaking the same. These photos were uploaded on social media platforms by BJP leader Priti Gandhi. This was done only with the intent of defaming and maligning her, harming her reputation and attacking her dignity as a woman and a prominent public figure. The tweets, videos and news reports being carried by social media platforms and news organisations are propagating defamatory allegations against her and the same are replete with false and defamatory statements..Moitra’s suit is expected to be heard by Justice Sachin Datta on Friday. .The suit has been filed through advocates Samudra Sarangi and Shruti Rana of the Law Offices of Panag & Babu.
