The Madras High Court has appointed its first ever woman mace-bearer/chobdar, The Hindu reported. .A mace bearer carries a mace and walks ahead of the judge when he/ she moves from his chamber to the court room. .Justice RN Manjula was the first judge of the Court to utilize the services of the woman chobdar.Justice Manjula is currently a member of the Gender Sensitization and Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) at the Principal Seat of the Madras High Court..On March 14 last year, the High Court had issued a notification for recruiting 40 chobdars, 310 office assistants and also for stray vacancies in the posts of cook, waterman, room boy, watchman, book restorer and library attendant on its official website. The candidates were offered Pay Level- I, which was in the band of ₹15,700 to ₹50,000..The eligibility criteria to be appointed as a mace bearer according to 2021 recruitment notification are:1. Pass in VIII Standard or its equivalent2. Minimum age of of 18 years and maximum age of 30 (35 for reserved category candidates)Candidates are also required to write a common written examination and undergo a practical and an oral test.
