Trilegal Partner and Litigation Head Sitesh Mukherjee will be relocating to Mumbai to build the firm’s disputes practice in the city, something that he has already done in Delhi..Confirming this decision, Partner Rahul Matthan said,.“We are looking to significantly invest in building our litigation capabilities in Mumbai, therefore, we have decided that Sitesh would move to Mumbai with a view to kick starting the litigation practice in Mumbai..The idea for Sitesh’s move is to replicate in Mumbai what he did for our litigation practice in Delhi.”.Mukherjee had joined Trilegal in 2009 from HSA Advocates. Since then, he has built a strong disputes practice for the firm in Delhi. The firm recently promoted two of its Counsel – Ashish Bhan and Jafar Alam – to partnership, effective April 1. They are part of the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice at Delhi..Talking about the firm’s strong litigation practice in Delhi, Matthan says,.“We have settled the ship in Delhi and we have got very strong capabilities in Delhi because we have a number of partners who can manage the practice. This is an opportunity to build a litigation practice in Mumbai.”.Mukherjee would be spending a lot of time traveling since he has his clients and matters in Delhi, but his major focus would be to build the Mumbai practice. Mathan adds,.“While Delhi tends to be a very important market for the disputes practice given that all the regulatory bodies are seated there, Mumbai is the commercial capital. There is lot of commercial litigation that actually happens in Mumbai and that’s why we think we need to focus here..And there is no greater signal of our commitment to doing this to the market in Mumbai than our head of litigation practice moving to Mumbai.”
