Law firm Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan has opened its second international office in London with Jones Day’s India Partner Sumesh Sawhney..Confirming this development, Managing Partner V Lakshmikumaran said that Sumesh will be heading the firm’s Global Corporate practice..“We will be only focusing on India practice and the team from India will support him”, added Lakshmikumaran..Sumesh joined jones Day in 2012 from Clifford Chance, where he worked for over six years. He was made Partner in 2010. Prior to Clifford Chance, he was working with Amarchand Mangaldas, a firm he joined in 2000 and where he was made Partner in 2003. Sumesh has previously worked as an in-house counsel with Thapar Group and Escorts Group for almost eight years..Commenting on the move, Sumesh said,.“It’s a great challenge as well as a privilege to be asked to lead this practice in L&S. Our vision is to build a very high end transactional practice to provide the same level of legal services that our clients are used to in other practice verticals.”.He added,.“The idea behind the London office is to bring Indian law capabilities closer to our UK / European and US clients. Lawyers across all our offices would work as one close-knit team to service the demands of our clients and our primary driver will be to build capabilities and structures to achieve this goal.”.This is the second major exit from Jones Day’s India practice group. Last week Manoj Bhargava resigned from the firm to join Sidley Austin.
