The Supreme Court was witness to an unsavoury episode today as two judges got into an argument over the admission of a matter..The incident happened in court room 9 presided by Justice MY Eqbal with Justice Arun Mishra as the puisne judge. The disagreement stemmed from the hearing of Item 30, argued by Senior Advocate and former Law Minister Salman Khurshid. While Justice Eqbal wanted to admit the matter, Justice Mishra wanted to dismiss it..When things reached an impasse, Justice Eqbal remarked that he has been presiding the Bench for three years. Justice Mishra refused to take that remark standing down and retorted that he had equal rights as a puisne judge of the Bench. The impasse continued as the lawyers and visitors watched in stunned silence..Eventually the Bench proceeded to direct that the matter be posted before another Bench..Disagreement between judges are common place though such differences rarely rear their head in open court. Earlier this year, there were such instances of difference of opinion between certain Supreme Court judges with the Chief Justice HL Dattu though nothing spilled into open court..Image courtesy: .Website of Supreme Court of India
