Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told a Delhi court on Friday that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is being “petty, political and ridiculous” by contesting his plea to get insulin in judicial custody. .Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appeared for Kejriwal before Special Judge (PC Act) Kaveri Baweja of Rouse Avenue Court and contended that Kejriwal has been receiving insulin for the last 12 years.“I am undertrial prisoner. I have a right to a dignified life and health. We have had democracy for 75 years but I am seeing such pettiness from an investigating agency for the first time,” Singhvi stated. He also contested ED’s arguments that Kejriwal was deliberately eating mangoes, sweets and other similar food to spike his sugar level and create a ground for bail. These statements are only meant for the media, Singhvi stressed.“I only use sugar free in my tea. How petty, political, and ridiculous ED can be? Their statements are completely false and malicious. Just because you have a lot of influence in the media you are able to publish that I am having aaloo (potato)-puri, even though this meal was sent only once during Navratri.”.Delhi court notes home meals of Arvind Kejriwal deviating from prescribed diet after ED's Mango argument. The Senior Advocate made the submissions while arguing the plea by Kejriwal for getting insulin in judicial custody. In his application, Kejriwal also prayed that he should be allowed to consult his doctor for 15 minutes every day and his wife Sunita Kejriwal should be allowed to remain present during that time.Singhvi said that he is pressing for consultation with Kejriwal’s own doctor because he has been micromanaging his treatment..Mangoes only in 3 meals out of 48 sent from home to jail: Arvind Kejriwal to Delhi Court.Meanwhile, advocate Yoginder Handoo appeared for the Tihar Jail and said that Kejriwal’s sugar levels have remained constant.“When he (Kejriwal) was admitted he said he was taking insulin earlier but he is not anymore. On the whole the blood sugar level has maintained… There was no stipulation in his diet that he should have fruit or anything. In fact, he is not following the diet. We have also got an opinion from AIIMS. According to this, he should avoid mangoes,” Handoo contended. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) argued that facilities in jail are suited to treat Kejriwal and he can be examined by the AIIMS doctors.“There is not a whisper as to why facilities in jail are not sufficient. If all other inmates... If everyone is equal, my lords have said they should be accorded the same facility… Any lawyer or a person concerned for his health will offer for expert opinion. No doctor in right mind would say you consume these fruits. No special treatment ought to be extended unless and until the facilities by jail authorities is not sufficient,” ED Special Counsel Zoheb Hossain said..The Court heard the submissions and reserved its order on Kejriwal’s plea. The Court orally remarked that there has been a deviation in what Kejriwal was allowed to eat and what was actually given to him through home cooked meal.
