The Delhi High Court has issued notice in a plea challenging the Rule mandating deduction of 2.5% from the total percentage of a candidate in best four subjects in case of change of stream while securing admission to a course in the Delhi Univerity..Notice was issued to the Delhi University by a Vacation Bench of Justice Jyoti Singh in a petition by Muskaan Aggarwal..The petitioner aced her class XII examination with a score of 96% in best four subjects in the science stream and now seeks admission in Delhi University’s B.A. (Hons.) Political Science course..However, as per Delhi University’s revised Bulletin of Information for admission in the undergraduate courses for the academic year 2019-20, a compulsory deduction of 2.5% marks is provided if a student opts for a course which he/ she has not studied in her class XII..It is the Petitioner’s case that the Rule mandating deduction in the percentage of marks in case of a change in the stream is arbitrary, discriminatory and baseless..It is also claimed that the Rule finds no reference in the High Court’s rulings concerning eligibility criteria for DU admissions..After hearing the petitioner, the Court had directed the University to file its response to the plea within a period of one week as the first cut-off list for DU admissions was due to come out on June 28..The Court also clarified that if the Petitioner succeeded in the petition, she would be granted admission as per her final marks and ranking in the merit list..The petition was filed through law firm PARENS PATRICE..The petitioner was represented by Advocates Naveen Kumar Jain, Jaspreet Kaur Bamra and Nikita Pal..DU was represented by Advocates Mohinder JS Rupal and Prang Newmai..The matter would be heard next on July 5..Read the order:
