The wife of a civil court judge has written to the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, alleging dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws..The letter dated July 29 has been forwarded by Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog to the High Court Registry for preliminary inquiry..In the letter, written in Marathi, the 37-year-old woman has called for an inquiry against her husband, who is a senior civil court judge presently posted at Baramati in Pune. As per the letter, she married the judge twelve years ago on May 8, 2007. The letter further states that her husband and in-laws made demands for dowry, despite the expenses paid for the wedding..“My husband and his family demanded a car and 30 acres of agricultural land despite spending Rs. Five lakh for furniture and wedding expenses.”.She has alleged that her husband and in-laws started demanding that her father’s agricultural land be transferred to the judge’s name. She also states that the judge and her in-laws harassed her father, who died of Cancer in 2008. The woman goes on to allege,.“When I returned home after performing my father’s final rituals, my husband judge and in-laws assaulted and threw me and my younger brother out of the house.“.“I was told that I will not be allowed to stay with them until agricultural land on my father’s name has been transferred to the judge,” she added..As per her letter, she spent some time at her mother’s house in Latur. After she moved into her husband’s house, when he was posted at Akola, she was again forced to leave and was given death threats..The letter further states that she informed Akola Police and the principal district judge. A complaint was lodged against her husband and in-laws, apprehending a threat to her life on July 4, 2012..The police, however, failed to take action. The woman claims that the police only asked her to leave the husband and live with her mother..In 2012, a sessions court in Akola district had granted ad-interim anticipatory bail to Badrinarayan Arbad, the judge in question, in the case filed by the woman alleging physical and mental torture. The judge was charged with offences under Sections 498 A, 323, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code..In September, 2012, the husband judge filed a divorce plea at a family court in Akola, in which case the complainant sought maintenance from him. The family court, in 2016, ordered the husband judge to pay Rs. 10,000 maintenance, as per the letter.. “I have received Rs. two lakhs as maintenance so far.
