A special court hearing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) cases has sought the response of Taloja prison superintendent on DHFL promoter Dheeraj Wadhawan's admission to a private hospital for 15 months without the court’s permission..The special CBI court was miffed by the fact that Wadhawan had been shifted to a private hospital on the basis of an order dated June 1, 2021 by another special court under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) though it was the special CBI could which had first sent Wadhawan to judicial custody. Wadhawan was arrested in 2020 first by the CBI in connection with the Yes Bank case and then by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).The CBI filed a plea before the Special Court on Wadhawan’s hospitalization claiming that there was no medical exigency to keep him admitted for over a year..Special CBI Judge SU Wadgaonkar stated that since Wadhawan was first sent to judicial custody by CBI court, the permission to shift him to private hospital should have also been taken by the CBI Court.“Considering this aspect, it is necessary to call for an explanation from superintendent of Taloja jail, on how he shifted the accused to a private hospital without permission of this court, when this court has first remanded accused in its custody.
