The Executive Committee of the Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA), pursuant to a meeting held today, has called for abstention from work from 2 pm..The strike was called to protest against an alleged illegal action taken against a woman lawyer by police officials who trespassed into the house of Advocate RK Saini, where the woman lawyer was staying..Despite an assurance given by Additional Public Prosecutor Mukesh Kumar that no arrest would take place, the police broke into the house at around 5 pm and arrested the woman lawyer, Deepa Arya. The officers allegedly forcibly dragged her out of the house and took her to the police station. Commenting on the incident Saini stated,.“Does this not affect the prestige, dignity & high position of the Advocate community as a whole & shouldn’t the High Court Bar Association take some action in the matter?”.Yesterday, APP Kumar had assured that no coercive steps would be taken against the petitioner lawyer before the Single Judge Bench of Justice Pratibha Rani..Deepa Arya today approached the Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar with a battery of lawyers including RK Saini and DHCBA President Kirti Uppal..Arya, who appeared in a wheelchair, stated that the police officer broke down the door and pulled her out of the premises. She also stated that the officer hurled abuses at her and threatened her with consequences if she reported the action..It was brought to the Court’s notice that the dispute is regarding some property which was gifted to Arya by her mother. Arya stated that her own brother and her cousin are after the property and have filed over 15 FIRs against her on frivolous charges. She stated,.“They are making me suffer like anything.”.Arya further stated that the police took no action on her complaints and that she needs protection as her life maybe under threat..Senior Advocate Kirti Uppal said that the police entered the premises and dragged the lawyer out, despite the fact that an assurance was given by the APP..The Court asked the counsel to redraft the petition, which was initially filed as a public interest litigation, as a criminal writ. The Bench said that this was important in order to file an FIR against the police officials behind the alleged action..Read Order recorded yesterday:
