The Delhi High Court has today extended the deadline to apply for the Delhi Judicial Service Examination 2018 till December 24, 11 pm..The order was passed by a Division Bench headed by Justice Vipin Sanghi while hearing writ petitions preferred by twelve aspirants..The petitioners had challenged the preponement of the original deadline of December 22 to fill in the application form and make the due payment, to December 12..The Delhi High Court had recently invited online applications for the Delhi Judicial Service Examination 2018..As per the November 13 notification, the last date for filing online applications for the Examination was December 22. Subsequently, the date was preponed to December 12 through a notification dated November 19. The date of conducting the Preliminary Examination was also preponed to January 13 from February 10..The preponement of examination date was, however, not a subject matter of challenge..It was the petitioners’ case that this preponement has caused serious prejudice to the petitioners as they were unaware of the date being preponed and thus “missed the bus”..It was claimed that since the petitioners were busy preparing for other competitive judicial services examination such as for the States of Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Haryana, they could not keep track of the updated deadlines..After hearing the arguments put forth by senior advocate Mohit Mathur and advocate Siddhartha Shankar Ray, the Court extended the deadline till December 24 to avoid any further litigation arising out of the preponement..Pursuant to the Court’s order, the online portal to fill and submit the form, and make the necessary payment would be re-opened soon.
