The Delhi High Court under the leadership of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal has achieved a new feat. Out of the 37 criminal appeals listed on the first day of vacation, 19 appeals were disposed of and in 4, the judgment was reserved..This is a part of a new project to expedite disposal of pending cases and provide special impetus to disposal of criminal appeals of convicts languishing in jail..A special sitting of Justices Sunil Gaur, Mukta Gupta, I.S. Mehta and R.K. Gauba has been scheduled between June 1 to June 16, 2017, in order to achieve the objectives of the project..The Benches will take up criminal appeals of convicts, who have been awarded a sentence up to 7 years, and who have already undergone more than 50% of the sentence awarded to them..Lorren Bamniyal, Registrar (Appellate) is the coordinator of this project..Amar Nath, retired Additional District and Sessions Judge and Bharat Chugh, former officer of the Delhi Judicial Service have been appointed as Amicus Curiae to assist the court in the disposal of the said appeals..Read Notification:
