Plea in Delhi HC seeks SIT probe into attack on Chandni Chowk Temple

A public interest litigation has been filed before the Delhi High Court seeking the constitution of a Court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the attack on old Durga Temple in New Delhi’s Chandni Chowk on June 30..“there seems to be a deeply rooted conspiracy in the aforesaid heinous act of attack on Hindu Temple in order to flare-up the communal disharmony in the area, which is required to be immediately investigated through a Special Investigation Team (SIT), duly monitored by this Hon’ble Court.“, the petition reads..The petition has been preferred by advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava..Terming the incident “sad and unfortunate”, the petitioner has further sought stringent action against the perpetrators..The petitioner submits that the attack on the temple in the national capital’s Chandni Chowk has hurt religious sentiments of crores of people across the country..It is claimed that CCTV footage and mobile clips on the attack could be used to identify “the real culprits who were in large number”. However, no effective measures have been taken to arrest the real culprits, it is stated..The petitioner also seeks the formulation of suitable guidelines to avoid similar attacks on other religious places of worships. Such attacks, the petitioner claims, have “wider ramifications” affecting communal harmony and peace in our society. The petitioner has also prayed for appropriate departmental action against the police officials who failed to avert such attack as well as protection to old religious institutions from any kind of mob attack..The matter is likely to be taken up in the coming days.
