The Delhi High Court yesterday impleaded five more publications in its suo moto petition to penalize media houses for disclosing personal details of the Kathua gangrape victim..The Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar issued notice to these five newspapers which include Dainik Jagran, Punjab Kesari, Hindustan, Catch News and Verve Magazine..In addition to the publications, the Court also issued notice to internet platforms like Google, Facebook and Twitter for extensively displaying the photographs and name of the victim..Last week, the Court had directed several media houses to deposit Rs. 10 lakh each, as penalty for disclosing personal information of the Kathua gangrape victim. These included India TV, The Times of India, NDTV, Republic TV, Indian Express and The Hindu among others..The Court had lambasted various publications and TV channels for not following the stated norms while covering the said incident and had appointed Senior Advocate Arvind Nigam as the amicus curiae in the matter..Read Order:
