The Delhi High Court yesterday asked the Centre and the Reserve Bank of India to re-examine the newly launched Rs. 50 banknote as the visually impaired were finding it difficult to identify the same due to its design..The direction was made while hearing a plea filed by Advocate Rohit Dandriyal along with Amritanshu Barthwal, Vivek pandey, Rahul Kumar and the All India Confederation of Blind, which had alleged that the new banknote does not have the identification mark for the visually impaired..The Court had issued notice to the Centre and the RBI in November last year on the plea, which sought a direction to the RBI to withdraw the newly launched Rs.50 banknote. The petition had stated that,.“The old banknote had the identification mark on the left side which could be felt by touch and helped the visually impaired to identify the denomination whereas in the new note, there is no identification mark for the visually impaired persons. It is very difficult for the visually impaired to identify the new note.”.The Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar stated that the Government and the RBI must try to resolve the issue without the intervention of the court..The matter will be next heard on February 16..Image taken from here.
