Delhi government agrees to raise jurisdiction of District Courts to Rs 2 crore; Forwards proposal to Centre for implementation

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit recently stated that the government has accepted a recent proposal to raise the pecuniary jurisdiction of lower courts to Rs. 2 crore for civil suits. Currently, the lower courts can only hear civil matters with a valuation lesser than Rs. 20 lakh. Chief Minister Dikshit also said that these recommendations had been forwarded to the Centre for implementation.
