A woman from Vellore, Tamil Nadu was arrested on Tuesday for trolling Justice N Kirubakaran of the Madras High Court on Facebook, as per various media reports..The housewife had reportedly criticized the judge in view of his recent comments condemning the strike conducted by teacher’s unions as part of the JACTO-GEO (Joint Action Council of Teachers Organisations-Government Employees Organisation). Justice Kirubakaran had strongly chided the striking teachers for hijacking the system at the cost of student welfare..In an order passed on September 13, 2017, the judge had also criticized the lackadaisical attitude of teachers as a reason for the the under-performance of state-board syllabus students in the NEET examination this year. It was remarked,.“Only five government school students from the state have managed to secure medical seats. Protesting teachers should feel ashamed of this fact. They should know their responsibility. Such persons cannot involve in strikes.“.Reacting to the same, a number of trolls took to online platforms to publish several social media posts critical of the judge. After he was appraised of the same, Justice Kirubakaran had however emphasised that action need only be taken,.“…when defamatory, unwanted observations or comments, allegations were made against the judges in personal and the judiciary in general action is needed to be taken…Merely because judiciary is affected, the police need not show any special interest and like any other cases, the case connected with this issue has to be investigated and dealt with by the Police.”.The woman from Vellore was arrested for having attributed motives to Justice Kirubakaran for targeting teachers in his critical remarks. A senior police officer was quoted as saying,.“Her post referred to the judge’s name and personal details, and alleged personal motives for his anger against teachers. She was traced among many, including some 25 teachers and government staff, who are awaiting action from their respective departments before arrests.”.As per TOI, her Facebook page pointed out that the strike was called by 96 associations of professionals including court staff, block development officers, noon meal staff, tahsildars and professors. The report also mentions that at least ten people associated with the strike have been arrested for such media posts..In the meanwhile, the teacher’s union has rendered an unconditional apology before Justice Kirubakaran for their actions. The apology was made when the matter concerning the JACTO-GEO strike came up for hearing on Wednesday. The judge did not pass any orders but adjourned the matter to be heard next on December 6, 2017.
