The Karnataka State Bar Council (KBAC) today wrote to the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court Abhay Sreeniwas Oka urging the closure of all Courts in the State till April 4, 2020 in the wake of Coronavirus pandemic. .The letter stated that even though it was resorted that the Courts would be taking up only "urgent cases", the public were still in a dilemma regarding attending Courts. In this regard, it reads, .Therefore, if the Courts are functioning out of anxiety, the litigant public and the Advocates will be present in courts and the same will cause congregation in the court premises. Even though Courts are said to be functioning for half a day and only urgent matters are taken up by the Courts, the Advocates and litigant public are still under dilemma whether to attend the courts or not. Therefore, we are requesting for closure of the Courts till 4th April 2020Karnataka Bar Association Council letter.In another circular issued, it has been decided that Karnataka Bar Council will only function from 10 am to 2 pm till April 4. All the Advocates have been informed to refrain from visiting the Bar Council till the said date.
