The Supreme Court Collegium today recommended the transfer of Justice Sureshwar Thakur from the High Court of Himachal Pradesh to the Punjab & Haryana High Court.A Collegium statement issued to this effect stated:."The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 21st September, 2021 has recommended transfer of Mr. Justice Sureshwar Thakur, Judge Himachal Pradesh High Court to Punjab & Haryana High Court.".Justice Thakur is presently the third seniormost Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court. .He was born in 1963. His father, Hira Singh Thakur, was also a judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court. .Justice Thakur obtained his law degree from the Himachal Pradesh University and commenced practice at the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in 1987. He has served as an additional Central Government Standing Counsel between 1994 and 2000. .In 2001, he was appointed an Additional District and Sessions Judge. After being posted in this capacity in several district, he went on to serve as District and Sessions Judge, Kinnaur at Rampur from June 2005 till October, 2005. .He went to work as the Presiding Officer, Labour Court, Kangra at Dharamshala, as the District and Sessions Judge, Bilaspur, the President of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Shimla, the District and Sessions Judge, Sirmaur at Nahan, and the District and Sessions Judge, Kangra at Dharamshala..He was appointed the Registrar, High Court of Himachal Pradesh in 2013, in which capacity he served for a year. .He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in May 2014.
