The Supreme Court Collegium on Friday recommended the transfer of Allahabad High Court Judge JustIce Shamim Ahmed to Madras High Court..The Collegium comprising the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, Surya Kant and Hrishikesh Roy rejected Justice Ahmed's request for a reconsideration of the proposal for his transfer to the Madras High Court."We have considered the request made by Mr Justice Shamim Ahmed in his representation. The Collegium does not find any merit in the request made by him. The Collegium, therefore, resolves to reiterate its recommendation dated 21 August 2024 to transfer Mr Justice Shamim Ahmed to the Madras High Court," the Collegium said in the resolution passed today..The Collegium on August 21 had proposed the transfer "for better administration of justice" and consulted one of the top court judges who is conversant with the affairs of Allahabad Allahabad High Court.The Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court and the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court were also consulted, as per the resolution.Since the Collegium did not find any reason to accede to Justice Ahmed's request against the proposed transfer, it has reiterated its August 21 recommendation today. .Justice Ahmed was appointed an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on December 12, 2019, and made a permanent High Court judge on March 26, 2021.
