The Supreme Court Collegium on Friday recommended Bombay High Court judge Justice KR Shiram to be the next Chief Justice of the Madras High Court..The decision was taken at a meeting of the Supreme Court Collegium today headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and also comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and BR Gavai.The Collegium noted that the office of Madras High Court Chief Justice has been lying vacant since the retirement of Justice SV Gangapurwala on May 23. Hence, it chose to recommend Justice Shriram to the post considering his seniority."Mr. Justice KR Shriram is the second senior most puisne Judge of the High Court of Bombay. He was appointed on 21 June 2013. Bearing in mind that Mr. Justice K R Shriram is a senior judge of the High Court of Bombay with experience on the judicial and administrative side, the Collegium recommends his appointment as Chief Justice of the High Court of Madras," the resolution passed by Collegium said..Justice Shriram was born in Mumbai and enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa on July 3, 1986.He began his legal career as a junior to Senior Advocate S Venkiteswaran, before setting up his own practice in 1997.He specialised in commercial matters and international trade Law, and appeared in the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court, besides other High Courts and even tribunals.
