Collegium recommends appointment of Advocate Viju Abarham as judge of Kerala High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of advocate Viju Abraham as judge of Kerala High Court.

The resolution regarding the same was passed today.

The recommendation made by the Collegium of the Kerala High Court on March 7, 2018 for elevation of Viju Abraham and six other Advocates, was first considered by the Supreme Court Collegium on October 9, 2018. Viju Abraham’s case was deferred to be considered after some time. His case was again deferred by the Collegium on February 12, 2019 as certain information was awaited from the High Court.

Subsequently, the requisite information relating to his net professional income received from the Kerala High Court was placed before the Collegium

On receipt of the same, the Collegium consulted with its colleagues conversant with the affairs of the Kerala High Court in order to ascertain suitability of Viju Abraham. It also scrutinized the material already on record as well as the further information received from Kerala High Court.

“In order to ascertain suitability of Shri Viju Abraham, Advocate for elevation to the High Court, we have consulted our colleagues conversant with the affairs of the Kerala High Court. Copies of letters of opinion of our consultee-colleagues received in this regard are placed below. For purpose of assessing merit and suitability of Shri Viju Abraham we have carefully scrutinized the material already on record as well as the further information received from Kerala High Court.”

Based on the above, the Collegium has now resolved to recommend Viju Abraham for appointment as judge of Kerala High Court.

“Having regard to all relevant factors, the Collegium is of the considered view that Shri Viju Abraham is suitable for elevation to the High Court.

In view of the above, the Collegium resolves to recommend that Shri Viju Abraham, Advocate, be appointed as a Judge of the Kerala High Court.”
