The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended that judicial officer Alok Kumar Verma be elevated as a judge of the Uttarakhand High Court.

Verma was recommended for elevation by the High Court Collegium on January 9, 2019. The Supreme Court Collegium assessed the material on record regarding Verma, and also consulted colleagues conversant with the affairs of Uttarakhand High Court. Apart from the above, the Collegium also had an interaction with Alok Verma.

Based on the above, the Collegium saw it fit to elevate Verma as judge of Uttarakhand High Court.

The resolution also notes the decision of the High Court Collegium to not recommend certain other judicial officers for elevation. The Supreme Court Collegium was in agreement with the reasons given for the non-recommendation of these officers.

The Uttarakhand High Court has a sanctioned strength of 11 judges, out of which there are two vacant posts. Should the recommendation to elevate Verma go through, the High Court will be one vacancy short of its sanctioned strength.
