The Supreme Court Collegium on Wednesday recalled its recommendation of September 2022 to appoint Justice Jaswant Singh as the Chief Justice (CJ) of Orissa High Court..Instead, he has now been recommended for elevation as Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court."The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on January 25, 2023, on reconsideration and in supersession of its earlier recommendation dated September 28, 2022, has recommended elevation of Shri Justice Jaswant Singh, Judge, Orissa High Court [PHC: P&H] as Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court," the statement released by Collegium said.This would also mean that the current Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Justice S Muralidhar is likely to continue in his post.Justice Muralidhar had earlier been recommended by the Collegium for transfer to the Madras High Court though it is yet to be cleared by the Central government..Justice Jaswant Singh studied law and business administration from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak before enrolling as an advocate in 1986. From March 1991 till his elevation, he held the posts of Assistant Advocate General, Deputy Advocate General, Senior Deputy Advocate General and Additional Advocate General, in the office of Advocate General, Haryana.He was elevated to the bench in 2007 as a judge in the Punjab and Haryana High Court before being transferred to Orissa High Court in 2021..[Read Collegium Statement]
