Justice Valmiki Mehta of Delhi High Court will not be transferred to Andhra Pradesh & Telangana High Court, reports DNA.
As per the report, the Collegium headed by Chief Justice JS Khehar has relented to the Centre’s proposal to reconsider the decision to transfer Justice Mehta out of Delhi High Court.
The recommendation to transfer Justice Valmiki Mehta was taken by the Collegium headed by former Chief Justice of India, Justice TS Thakur in March 2016. The Centre had refused to process the file for quite some time resulting in some strong observations by Justice Thakur during the hearing of a case concerning judicial appointments.
Justice Thakur had even threatened to withdraw judicial work from Justice Mehta and another judge, Justice MR Shah.
The Centre had subsequently, sent the transfer files of the two judges back to the Collegium for reconsideration. The Collegium has now taken a decision on one of these two files.
Besides the above, transfer of another judge, Justice KM Joseph of Uttarakhand High Court, is also pending with the Central government for more than a year now.
