Another writ petition challenging the conduct of this year’s Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2018) came to be filed before the Supreme Court today..The petition prays for quashing of the test conducted on May 13 and for a fresh examination to be held..The Supreme Court Bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao and M Shantanagoudar agreed to list the matter for tomorrow..This petition, filed on behalf of twenty-nine candidates from different states, through Advocates Zoheb Hossain and Rajendra Dangwal, will be heard tomorrow along with a similar writ petition that was heard by another Bench..The petition claims that the manner in which the CLAT 2018 was held was “arbitrary, grossly unfair, negligent and mismanaged”. It also states that the exam was in gross violation of the fundamental rights of the candidates..Submitting that the Right to Equality of candidates was violated when some candidates were awarded extra time on account of technical glitches, the petition also states that this vitiated the idea of equality and merit..In a similar petition filed before the Supreme Court earlier this month, the Supreme Court had directed the organising institute of CLAT 2018 – NUALS, Kochi – to set up a grievance redressal forum to address technical problems faced by students during the exam..However, this petition states that the effects of mismanagement in conducting the exam are not limited to personal grievance, but defeat the purpose of the exam, causing irreparable loss to the candidates..In this light, the petition prays for quashing of the exam held on May 13, and for a fresh exam to be held..In the interim, the relief sought by the petitioners is for a stay to be imposed on the declaration of results and the merit list of CLAT 2018, which is scheduled to be published on May 31. Additionally, a stay on the publication of the first indicative seat allocation list is also sought..The Supreme Court will hear this matter tomorrow, a day before the results are scheduled to be declared..Petitions challenging the exam have also been filed in at least seven different high courts..Read the petition:
