CLAT 2015: Rajasthan HC directs Convenor to refer 15 errors to Expert Committee

Pressure from the high courts seems to be mounting on the beleaguered CLAT Convenor. Less than a week after the Bombay High Court ordered the authorities to reconstitute an Expert Committee to look into errors in the answer key, the Rajasthan High Court had directed the Convenor to refer 15 errors to the same expert panel..A petition pointing out unaddressed errors in the CLAT paper was filed by one Rashi Mangal at the Jaipur bench of the Rajasthan High Court. Justice Alok Sharma held in the order dated July 7,. “…it would be appropriate as submitted by the counsel for the respondent No.2 Convener (CLAT-2015) that the petitioners also forthwith file their representation/s before the respondent No.2-Convener on the issue of their aggrievement with the said examination. The Convener is thereon directed to make reference of the representation/s to the Expert Committee appointed by the Bombay High Court in the light of its Judgment dated 2.7.2015.”.[Read full order below].It is interesting to note that it was the CLAT Convenor’s counsel who suggested that petitioner’s grievances be referred to the Expert Committee. A similar suggestion was made in the Chhattisgarh High Court last week in a matter pertaining to errors in the PG paper..Apropos the Bombay High Court’s directions, the Expert Committee is presently reviewing 7 errors in the answer key. According to CLAT Mentor Rajneesh Singh, two of the 15 errors pointed out in Rashi Mangal’s petition are common to the ones mentioned in the Bombay High Court petition. This takes the total number of errors being reviewed to 20..After months of speculation and the resulting chaos, it all boils down to the Expert Committee’s decision on the aforementioned errors. If all (or at least some) errors are admitted, the allotment lists will most likely have to be prepared all over again. Bear in mind the last time such a committee was constituted, only two errors were admitted to.
