In a rather controversial move, Chief Justice of India TS Thakur has excluded Justice Madan Lokur from the Supreme Court’s e-Committee, reports TOI..The new e-Committee, constituted as of November 9, sees former Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court Sunil Ambwani J. replacing Justice Lokur..And if news reports are to be believed, the ouster was a rather unceremonious one, with Justice Lokur reportedly saying,.“I had worked very hard for the last four years and the e-Committee has completed 97 per cent of the work contemplated. We were on the brink of putting in place a National Judicial Data Grid for high courts. But I have been moved out by the CJI, who is the patron-in-chief of the e-Committee..…I was not even informed about it by the CJI. A notification has been issued appointing Justice Ambwani as chairman of the e-Committee. It is the sole prerogative of the CJI as patron-in-chief to decide who should head the e-Committee. But courtesy demanded that a person who worked hard for the last four years be informed before being moved out.”.Justice Lokur has been the judge-in charge of the e-Committee since July 2012, when Justice SH Kapadia was Chief Justice of India..The e-Committee has been working towards computerisation of judicial records in courts across the country since its inception in 2004. One of the more prominent developments under Justice Lokur’s stewardship was the launch of the National Judicial Data Grid in September 2015, to track pendency of cases in the lower judiciary..Image taken from here.
