Following the recommendations of the Gender Sensitization and Internal Complaints Committee (GSICC), Chief Justice Sathasivam has imposed a 6-month ban on Advocate CS Nagesh from entering the premises of the Supreme Court..This is the first instance of the GSICC recommending punishment under the recently introduced Gender Sensitization and Sexual Harassment of Women at the Supreme Court of India (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Regulations of 2013..The Committee itself is headed by Justice Ranjana Desai and had received two complaints as far back as February 1, 2014. As per the circular released by the Supreme Court today, it was on March 15, 2014 that CJI Sathasivam decided to impose the penalty of a 6-month debarment on CS Nagesh..The circular also states that the GSICC had recommended a maximum debarment of one year but a lighter punishment was meted out given the fact that “no other incident of this nature relating to Mr. Nagesh has been reported”. The Chief Justice also notes that these six-months would not only serve as a deterrent but also provide a chance for CS Nagesh to “redeem himself”
