Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi has once again expressed his anguish over a large number matters being mentioned for urgent listing..“Everyday fifteen-twenty minutes are spent in mentioning… It cannot work like this”.While responding to one of the advocates’ plea seeking urgent listing of a case, CJI Gogoi said that often what is sought during mentioning is different from the prayers made in the written records..“I spend an hour every day to see if the matters that are mentioned can be accommodated in the list the next day. But often what is orally mentioned is not found in the written records later on. You tell us what is to be done!”.This is not the first time CJI Gogoi has been miffed with the way matters are mentioned in the Supreme Court. As soon as he took charge as Chief Justice, Gogoi J had made it clear that mentioning of matters in the Supreme Court will be on hold till parameters relating to the process are worked out..A week later, a lawyer mentioned a matter which had been deleted from the list. Gogoi J. said that he will look into it and make sure it is listed after Dussehra vacation. The lawyer persisted for an earlier date..“Which part of what we said don’t you understand. Should I take consent of all lawyers and postpone the Dusherra vacation“, he had asked.
