A conference of Chief Justices of High Courts as well as a joint conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices will be held this week in Delhi. .Both such conferences are being held after a gap of six years. The 39th conference of Chief Justices of High Courts will held in the Supreme Court premises tomorrow and will be chaired by Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana. The next day, that is April 30, the joint conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices will be held at Delhi's Vigyan Bhawan. It will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. .The two events are being organised at the behest of the CJI with an aim to address various issues concerning the judiciary. The Chief Justices conference will review the progress of the resolutions taken at the last such meet, back in 2016, and also discuss steps to improve the justice delivery system in the country. It will be attended by the two senior most puisne judges of the Supreme Court, Justices UU Lalit and AM Khanwilkar. According to a press release issued by the Supreme Court, the following issues will be deliberated in the conference: - Strengthening on priority the network and connectivity at all court complexes: Developing IT infrastructure for all district courts and having a permanent cadre for the same, transmission of orders and judgments through email and using Artificial Intelligence towards speedy disposal of judicial matters. - Efficient human resources and personnel policy to augment needs of district courts in terms of staff strength.- Infrastructure and capacity building through Central and State level authorities for district courts.- Institutional and legal reforms: Focusing on pre-litigation meditation and robust alternative dispute resolution process. - Appointment of High Court judges and expediting the process of recommendations for the same.[Read press release]
