A relationship of mutual respect between the Bar and the Bench is necessary for justice delivery, Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma said on Thursday as he bid farewell to the Delhi High Court..Justice Sharma demitted office since he has been elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court of India..Speaking at a full court farewell reference held this afternoon, Chief Justice Sharma said that being a first-generation lawyer, he owed all his successes to people who guided him from time to time.“Justice to litigants has always been a consistent goal. Whether or not I have succeeded in that, I cannot tell and in fact, I should not. After all, we know I cannot be a judge in my own cause. But I can confidently share that judgeship has given me a sense of satisfaction. This ability to alleviate the sufferings of a litigant and to uphold their rights is a hallmark of justice. I am filled with a sense of gratitude to serve the people of this nation,” Justice Sharma added..He went on to thank the lawyers who had assisted him in hearings during his time as a High Court judge.“I am thankful to the members of the bar for assisting me and for always holding me in high esteem. Bar and Bench must always share a bond of mutual respect as it is important for the ultimate goal of delivery of justice. He was designated Senior Advocate in 2003 at the age of 42 and elevated as an Additional Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on January 15, 2020.He was transferred to the Karnataka High Court in December 2020. He served as Acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court and on October 11, 2021, he was elevated as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court. Justice Sharma assumed charge as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court on June 28, 2022..As Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice Sharma delivered many important judgments.Most notably, a Division Bench headed by him upheld the Agnipath Scheme. He was also part of the Bench that rejected WhatsApp’s challenge to the Competition Commission of India (CCI) probe into the messaging app’s privacy policy. Further, Chief Justice Sharma headed the Bench that delivered verdicts in St Stephens College admission case. Recently, he was part of the Bench that quashed advertisements issued by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan inviting applications for teaching and non-teaching jobs, on the ground that the authorities had failed to provide proper reservations to Persons with Disabilities.
