The Central Government has notified the appointment of two judicial officers as additional judges of the Bombay High Court..The newly appointed judges are:Urmila Sachin Joshi-Phalke (who is presently the principal district judge at the City Civil and Sessions Court at Mumbai), andBharat Pandurang Deshpande.The Supreme Court had first recommended their names for elevation to High Court in September 2021. The Central government had returned their files but the Collegium had reiterated its recommendation on February 1 this year. .As on June 1, the Bombay High Court is working at a strength of 55 as opposed to its sanctioned strength of 94 with 39 vacancies..[Read DoJ update]
