The Central government has moved to withdraw the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 (PDP Bill), which is pending in the Lok Sabha, pursuant to the new recommendations made by the Joint Committee of Parliament (JCP)..Union Minister for Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday moved a motion to withdraw the Bill that sought to provide protection of the digital privacy of individuals in relation to their personal data.Following the IT Minister's move for leave to withdraw the Bill, the House approved the motion by way of a voice vote..It is pertinent to note that a statement issued by the Union IT Minister, containing reasons for which the Bill was being withdrawn has been circulated .According to the same, the PDP Bill, 2019 was deliberated in great detail by the Joint Committee of the Parliament. Further,"81 amendments were proposed and 12 recommendations were made towards comprehensive legal framework on digital ecosystem." However, considering the report of the JCP, a comprehensive legal framework was being worked upon.
