Central government committee on Arbitration Act will examine court's role in appointment of arbitrators: AG to Supreme Court

Attorney General R Venkataramani told a Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court that since the government has formed a committee to examine this aspect, the top court may defer hearing on the issue for the time being.

The Central government has formed a committee to review the Arbitration and Conciliation Act of 1996 including the issue of whether courts, in an application under Section 11 of the Act, can deviate from the procedure agreed between parties for appointment of arbitrators.
