The Supreme Court today issued notice in a petition filed by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Anti-Sikh riots of 1984. The petition challenges the Delhi High Court’s order to grant anticipatory bail to one of the accused, Sajjan Kumar..Additional Solicitor General Maninder Singh, appearing for the SIT, told the Supreme Court Bench of Justices AK Sikri and Ashok Bhushan that there are two FIRs against Sajjan Kumar, and that he could have been arrested if not for the anticipatory bail order..Singh said that despite the Justice GP Mathur report, the Delhi High Court granted anticipatory bail to the Congress leader on February 22..“Just before he is summoned, he comes armed with an anticipatory bail order and a battery of lawyers”, ASG told the Court..After hearing the matter, the Court issued notice to Sajjan Kumar..Justice Sikri remarked,.“It’s high time cases like this should be tried and adjudicated at the earliest.”
