Cabinet clears proposal for Judicial Appointment Commission; Constitutional amendment likely to be introduced next week

The proposed Judicial Appointment Commission (JAC/Commission), replacing the collegium system of appointing judges, has moved one step closer to becoming reality. As per a news report on Zee News, the Union Cabinet has cleared a proposal to introduce the JAC and a Constitutional Amendment Bill to that effect is likely to be introduced next week.
