Incumbent Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will continue to serve the post as part of the new Modi government’s Cabinet.

In a Cabinet reshuffle exercise by the first Modi government in July 2016, Ravi Shankar Prasad replaced DV Sadananda Gowda as Law Minister.

Prasad was initially the Law Minister when the Narendra Modi government had assumed power in 2014. He was subsequently replaced by Sadananda Gowda on November 10, 2014.

A graduate of Patna University, Prasad was designated as Senior Advocate by the Patna High Court in 1999, and later by the Supreme Court in 2000. A prolific career in politics followed, with Prasad serving as Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Information & Broadcasting, and Law.

Prasad recently won the 2019 Lok Sabha election from his constituency in Patna by a considerable margin of votes.

Apart from the Law Ministry, Prasad will also continue as Minister of Electronics and Information Technology. He has also been named as the Minister for Communications.
