Taking note of the impact of the Blue Whale game, the Supreme Court today directed Doordarshan to conceive an educational/awareness programme to be telecast on all private channels..The order was passed by a Bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud in a petition filed by advocate Sneha Kalita..Senior Advocate Vijay Hansaria appeared for the petitioner, while ASG PS Narasimha represented the central government..The Court, after hearing the parties, noted in its order that the Blue Whale game “is dangerous to life and needs to be condemned”..It then proceeded to ask the Centre to ensure that Doordarshan conceives an educational programme about the impact of Blue Whale game..The programme has to be conceived within a week and it has to be telecast on all private channels during prime time..The matter is now listed for hearing on November 20..A number of courts have taken notice of the Blue Whale game, whose origins are mired in mystery. The Madras High Court had taken suo motu cognizance of the matter after the game allegedly claimed the life of a 19-year-old..The Delhi High Court had issued notice to search engines like Google and Yahoo, directing them to pull down links to the game in order to curb the menace.
