A Delhi Court on Thursday deferred its order on framing of charges against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and former President of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh after he sought further investigation into the case..Singh today raised the defence of alibi and told the court that he was not in Delhi when one of the wrestlers, who has complained against him, was allegedly sexually harassed.Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Priyanka Rajpoot reserved the order on the application moved by Singh in this regard.The Court said the order on his application will be pronounced on April 26.The application moved by Singh was opposed by the Prosecution which called it a delaying tactic and argued that it amounted to asking for further investigation..Pertinently, the Court was today expected to take a decision with regard to framing of charges against Singh who is accused of sexual harassment, stalking, outraging of modesty and criminal intimidation by certain women wrestlers..Six wrestlers had levelled sexual harassment allegations against Singh. Based on their complaints, the police had registered a first information report (FIR).On June 15, 2023, the police filed a chargesheet against Singh for offences under Sections 354 (outraging modesty), 354A (sexually coloured remarks), 354D (stalking) and 506(1) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).The complainants had earlier moved the Supreme Court earlier for the registration of an FIR against Singh.Subsequently, the Supreme Court was informed by Delhi Police that an FIR was registered and that the investigation was on track.A minor wrestler had also levelled allegations against Singh. However, she later withdrew her complaint and the Delhi Police filed a cancellation report in that case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act).
