Bihar moves Supreme Court against Patna High Court decision to quash 65% reservation law

The reservation for SC/STs and backward classes was increased to 65 per cent in 2023, reducing the open merit category to 35; the law in question was then struck down by the Patna High Court.

The Bihar government has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Patna High Court judgment that set aside the increase in reservation for Backward Classes, Extremely Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/STs) from 50 per cent to 65 in public employment and admission to educational institutions.
