The Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) has introduced a digital verification form to streamline the online process of verifying the certificates of practice of lawyers..As per a notice issued by the BCD, all advocates enrolled from January 1, 1990 onwards are required to fill out the digital verification form, FORM-A.Advocates who have enrolled before January 1, 1990 are required to fill out only a declaration form as Form-A is not applicable to them, the notice added..The BCD has clarified that Advocates-on-Record of the Supreme Court and designated Senior Advocates are exempted from filling out FORM A, in line with Rule 5(a) of a January 12, 2015 notification."They would be required to fill a separate form, i.e.- "FORM-E" as specified in the Bar Council of India Certificate and Place of Practice (Verification) Rules, 2015, and they are not required to fill up FORM-A," the notice stated..As per Rule 5 of the Bar Council of India Certificate and Place of Practice (Verification) Rules, 2015, advocates are not entitled to practice law unless they hold a valid certificate of practice, which has to be verified every five years.The move to make this verification process online comes in view of the upcoming general elections to the BCD.The notice issued by the BCD added that it is mandatory for all advocates to submit their verification forms, which will serve as the basis for preparing the electoral rolls for the elections..According to the notice, online links to access the digital verification forms were made available from November 22 onwards. .[Read Notice]
