The Delhi High Court has given its go-ahead to Bar Associations at Tis Hazari and Karkardooma District Courts to conduct elections on December 13..The order was passed by a Division Bench of Justices GS Sistani and Anup J Bhambhani..While the elections at the Karkardooma Court shall be held under the supervision of retired Delhi High Court Judge, Justice Vinod Goel, elections at Tis Hazari Court shall be held under the supervision of retired Delhi High Court Judge, Justice Kailash Gambhir..The Bar Association elections were originally slated to be held at Tis Hazari and Karkardooma Courts on November 5 and November 7, respectively..However, following the Tis Hazari violence that erupted on November 2, the elections were postponed by the Court..A scuffle had broken out between lawyers and police personnel at Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court Complex on November 2 after an argument between a lawyer and the police over parking. The altercation soon escalated and resulted in serious violence in the Court Complex; a lawyer was shot in the ensuing melee..The Delhi High Court Court soon took suo motu cognizance of the matter and ordered a judicial inquiry headed by Justice (retd.) SP Garg into the incident. While doing so, it also granted protection from coercive action against the lawyers in connection with the cross-FIRs registered against them by Delhi Police..Following the incident, lawyers across the district courts abstained from work. The strike was finally suspended on November 15.
