Senior Advocate and former Solicitor General, Gopal Subramanium has refused to be the Special Public Prosecutor in the trial of cases related to the Coal scam..Subramanium has turned down the offer citing prior commitments. According to The Hindu, his decision was conveyed to Advocate Manohar Lal Sharma, one of the petitioners in the case, when Sharma contacted him on the issue..When the coal scam hearing was progressing in the Supreme Court on July 18, the name of Subramanium was brought up by all the parties involved in the case for being appointed the Special Public Prosecutor. Chief Justice RM Lodha, who was presiding the hearing, was also in agreement with the same. .The Court had also directed the Delhi High Court to appoint a Special judge to hear all the cases relating to Coal scam..Last month, Subramanium who was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium for appointment as Supreme Court judge, had withdrawn his consent for the same after the Central government urged the Collegium to reconsider Subramanium’s name.
